Ingredients

Peppermint Patty Filling

  • ¾ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • teaspoons peppermint extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • Chocolate Coating
  • 3 cups semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
  • 2 teaspoons shortening

Optional Toppings

  • White chocolate drizzle
  • Crushed peppermint candy
  • Colored sprinkles

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Peppermint Filling

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine sweetened condensed milk and peppermint extract.
  • Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing continuously until a thick dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough to a powdered sugar-dusted surface.
  • Roll the dough to ¼-inch thickness and cut into small circles using a cookie cutter or glass rim.

Step 2: Let the Patties Dry

  • Arrange cut-out patties on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Let them air dry for 2 hours, flipping them halfway through to ensure even drying.

Step 3: Melt the Chocolate

  • In a heatproof bowl, combine chocolate chips and shortening.
  • Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.
  • Alternatively, use a double boiler to melt chocolate over low heat.

Step 4: Dip the Patties

  • Using a fork, dip each peppermint patty into the melted chocolate, ensuring full coverage.
  • Let excess chocolate drip off before placing patties back onto parchment paper.
  • (Optional) Use a fork to create a decorative swirl on top.

Step 5: Set and Store

  • Refrigerate the patties for 30 minutes until the chocolate hardens.
  • Store in an airtight container:
  • Refrigerated: Up to 2 weeks
  • Frozen: Up to 6 months
